Summer Floorwork Series

Wed 6-7pm
7/12, 7/26, 8/2 and 8/9
The Floorwork Series is designed for students who are interested in continuing their exploration of floorwork technique. This series will include an introduction to Safety Release Technique (SRT) founded by B.J. Sullivan. Makayla had the pleasure of studying under B.J. Sullivan from 2017-2020 while pursuing her MFA in Choreography from The University of North Carolina Greensboro and had the pleasure of having B.J. on her MFA Thesis Committee.
Safety Release (SRT) is a dance technique that studies the moving body from a skeletal perspective. SRT focuses on the spine action and the major joints directing energy and motion efficiently and free of frozen tension. The progression of the class begins on the floor and makes its way to standing for a continuation of full body movement. The class moves from somatic awareness into rigorous physicality and expression. The student learning outcomes are to build on the intimate relationship with the floor to sense breath, alignment, and momentum.
*Students are encouraged to wear pants to class.
The series is priced at 3 weeks for summer as we know students may miss a class.
