Classes
Ballet IV & V 60 min
Upon graduating from Ballet III, advanced level students will be recommended to Ballet IV or higher. Students studying at this level of Ballet will have the option of learning Pointe.
Ballet Technique 60 min
Tap IV & V 60 min
Matriculation into the intermediate and advanced level tap classes are by recommendation. Students transferring from other programs will be assessed prior to final class placement. These classes will focus on faster and more intricate footwork. The dancer at this level will develop speed, clarity, dynamics, and the ability to execute to complex rhythmic combinations
Contemporary IV & V 60 min
Contemporary explores oppositional movement, alignment, pedestrian like gestures, irregular rhythms and patterns, and release into the floor. Contemporary dance is usually introduced at the more advanced levels where the dancers have a strong ballet technique to support the movement and skills required.
Jumps & Turns (Intermediate & Advanced students) 60 min
Jumps & Turns is a technique class focused on building the skills needed to properly execute jumps and turns. Focus is on building strength, core stability and stamina. A full warm up including technique and strengthening exercises followed by progressions.
Musical Theatre 60 min
This class is designed for students that love being on stage and performing. This jazz-based class focuses on dance styles found in Broadway musicals. Students not only learn dance technique, but also work on showmanship.
Acro Sessions (5-week Session)
No experience is required for Acro. Each student will work at their individual pace on the skills they are ready to learn. Acro dance will compliment current students that wish to invest time and effort into improving overall flexibility to start. From there, skills can be added. Acro dance has several benefits, including helping to improve a dancers strength, flexibility, control, balance, as well as help prevent injuries. Throughout the intro session of this course, the dancers will all begin to build on these essential areas with basic training techniques to create a good platform and prepare them for more advanced moves. Hip Hop (JPG, PG, SCDC) 60 min
Placement in the intermediate and advanced level classes are at the recommendation of the faculty and/or directors. Pre-requisite of Hip Hop I/II and/or equivalent experience.
Modern (JPG, PG, SCDC) 60 min
An exploration of modern dance, designed to enable students to experientially understand and appreciate this art form, its discipline and its creativity. Includes basic modern dance technique and movement principles. Modern dance builds a foundation for a dancing practice that revolves around improvisational skills, initiating spontaneous physicality and movement with a heightened body knowledge/awareness. Class focus is on specificity of movement, contralateral movement, efficiency within floor work , and movement trajectories.
