This class employs various established techniques for a more complete development of skills and an understanding of the aesthetic criteria for the modern dance style. Our work will provide a deeper understanding of the structure and technicality of the dancing body through the principles of modern dance technique: efficiency, clarity, attention, and cultivating awareness. Open to all returning and incoming company members.
Student learning outcomes: 1. Move contra-laterally during locomotion (left/right halves in opposition). 2. Demonstrate dynamic alignment- as appropriate to exercises/combinations in the class and involving awareness of center. 3. Show command of skills involving initiation of movement. 4. To find artistry in the body by recognizing natural musicality: breath, weight, gravity, momentum 5. Respond spontaneously and imaginatively to improvisational prompts, with confidence/full engagement, and some degree of invention-and/or demonstrate creative spontaneity within a given technique. *No pre-requisites to enroll |
Contemporary Choreography Lab
August 1-5th, 2022 5:30-7pm $150 (registration should be done through Studio Director) This class is an opportunity for company level dancers to learn about choreographic tools and put them to practice to create their own original contemporary dance work. This class emphasizes the elements of dance composition, including time, dynamics, design, space, energy and rhythm. In learning how to articulate and demonstrate with skill and confidence the imaginative acts through which dances are conceived, planned, developed, revised and refined for presentation. Strong attention will be given to students' use of ideas and themes as the basis for choreographic design and students' ways of clarifying and improving personal artistic tendencies, and to work effectively with other dancers. |
